What is Perioral dermatitis?

What is Perioral dermatitis?

  • Perioral dermatitis: A rash consisting of itchy red bumps that occur around the mouth area. The cheeks and even eye area may eventually become involved. The cause of the condition is not well understood but topical glucocorticoids can dramatically worsen the condition or even cause the condition.
  • Perioral dermatitis: A papular eruption of unknown etiology that progresses to residual papular erythema and scaling usually confined to the area of the mouth, and almost exclusively occurring in young women. It may also be localized or extend to involve the eyelids and adjacent glabella area of the forehead (periocular dermatitis). (Dorland, 28th ed)
