Periorbital Cellulitis
Periorbital Cellulitis: Introduction
A bacterial infection of the tissue around the eyes causing swelling and redness around the eyes. This infection usually results from the spread of another nearby infection such as conjunctivitis or sinusitis. It is important to treat this condition early as the infection can spread into the tissue inside the eye socket (orbital cellulitis) however this is rare. Periorbital cellulitis is more common in younger children than adults.
