Glossary for Phenytoin toxicity

  • Ataxia: It is a neurological sign and symptom consisting of gross lack of co-ordination of muscle movements.
  • Confusion: Mental confusion and impaired thinking.
  • Diplopia: Double vision
  • Dysarthria: Imperfect articulation of speech
  • Hyperglycemia: High levels of glucose in the blood
  • Hyperreflexia: An exaggerated reflex of the muscles
  • Nystagmus: Involuntary jerky eye movements
  • Peripheral neuropathy: Peripheral neuropathy is the term for damage to nerves of the peripheral nervous system, which may be caused either by diseases of the nerve or from the side-effects of systemic illness.
  • Priapism: Persistent, prolonged and painful erection that can last from several hours to days.
  • Slurred speech: Slurring speech or difficulty articulating words
