Glossary for Placenta previa

• Abruptio Placentae: Placental bleeding usually late in a pregnancy.
• Eclampsia: Eclampsia is the development of seizures or coma in pregnant women suffering from high blood pressure. Eclampsia is a serious condition which requires urgent medical treatment. Eclampsia may be associated with moderate as well as significant increases in blood pressure. The blood pressure can return to normal after delivery or may persist for a period of time.
• Folic Acid Deficiency - Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that a deficiency of Folic Acid during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
• Placenta conditions: Any condition that affects the placenta
• Small baby: Small size of newborn baby
• Uterine fibroids: Benign nodules in the uterus wall.
• Vaginal bleed in pregnancy: Vaginal bleed in pregnancy refers to blood often found on underwear, the toilet paper, in the toilet bowl or after sexual intercourse. The blood loss may or may not be accompanied by other symptoms such as pain.
