Glossary for Postpartum depression

  • Anxiety: A feeling of apprehension, and fear without apparent stimulus that is associated sometime with somatic responses
  • Arthropathy, progressive pseudorheumatoid, of childhood: A form of progressive rheumatoid arthritis that affects children.
  • Baby blues: Mild common form of feeling down after childbirth (not as severe as postpartum depression)
  • Depression: Persistent depressed mood with various depressive symptoms.
  • Depressive symptoms: Inappropriate depressed mood.
  • Despair: feeling of melancholy
  • Hypothyroidism: Too little thyroid hormone production.
  • Moodiness: Inappropriate moods or excessive mood changes
  • Over-diagnosed conditions: Any condition that is diagnosed to excess even though the patient may not have the condition
  • Panic disorder: It is a severe medical condition characterized by extremely elevated mood.
  • Paraneoplastic Neurologic Disorders: A term used to describe the distant neurological effects of cancer. It results from an autoimmune attack against antigens present in cancer and the nervous system. Peripheral nerves, central nervous system and muscle controlling nerves may be affected. Often the effects become obvious before the cancer is detected. Types of PNS include Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome, subacute cerebellar ataxia, opsoclonus-myoclonus, retinopathies, limbic encephalitis, chronic gastrointestinal pseudoobstruction, sensory neuronopathy, encephalomyelitis, dermatomyositis, Stiff-Person syndrome and melanoma-associated retinopathy.
  • Postpartum psychosis: Rare psychosis following childbirth.
  • Pregnancy: The condition of supporting a fetus from conception till birth.
  • Psychiatric disorders: Any condition that affects ones mind
  • Psychological disorders: Any condition that affects ones mind
  • Sadness: feeling of melancholy
