Inheritance and Genetics of Prostate Cancer

Racial Patterns for Prostate Cancer:

Racial Details for Prostate Cancer: This disease is much more common in African American men than in white men. It is less common in Asian and American Indian men. (Source: excerpt from What You Need To Know About Prostate Cancer: NCI)

Prostate Cancer: Genetics Information

Genetics of Prostate Cancer: Despite the high prevalence of prostate cancer, little is known about the genetic predisposition of some men to the disease. Numerous studies point to a family history being a major risk factor, which may be responsible for an estimated 5-10% of all prostate cancers. About inheritance and genetics:

Inheritance of Prostate Cancer refers to whether the condition is inherited from your parents or "runs" in families. The level of inheritance of a condition depends on how important genetics are to the disease. Strongly genetic diseases are usually inherited, partially genetic diseases are sometimes inherited, and non-genetic diseases are not inherited. For general information, see Introduction to Genetics.
