Respiratory diphtheria

Respiratory diphtheria: Introduction

A contagious bacterial disease that starts with a sore throat and fever. The bacteria multiply in the throat and lead to respiratory diphtheria. The infection results in a tough grey membrane being formed. If excessive membrane is formed, breathing may become increasingly difficult and death is possible. Diphtheria can affect the respiratory system (respiratory diphtheria) or the skin (cutaneous diphtheria).
