Is Rift Valley Fever Contagious?

Discussion about Contagion of Rift Valley Fever:

People get RVF from the bites of mosquitoes and possibly other blood-sucking insects that serve as vectors. People can also get the disease if they are exposed to either the blood or other body fluids of infected animals. This exposure can result from the slaughtering or handling of infected animals or touching contaminated meat during the preparation of food. Infection through aerosol transmission of RVF virus has resulted from contact with laboratory specimens containing the virus. (Source: excerpt from Facts About Rift Valley Fever: CDC-OC)

About contagion and contagiousness:

Contagion and contagiousness refers to how easily the spread of Rift Valley Fever is possible from one person to another. Other words for contagion include "infection", "infectiousness", "transmission" or "transmissability". Contagiousness has nothing to do with genetics or inheriting diseases from parents. For an overview of contagion, see Introduction to Contagion.
