Glossary for Rosacea

  • Acne: Pimples and blackheads on the face and skin.
  • Acne Vulgaris: Another term for the common skin disorder called acne. Acne may occur just about anywhere on the body but is most common on the face, neck and back. The condition may be mild with just a few small spots or severe where large painful cysts develop. Acne generally results from dead skin blocking skin pores which results in infection.
  • Alcohol - Teratogenic Agent: There is strong evidence to indicate that exposure to Alcohol during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Blood vessel conditions: Conditions that affect the blood vessels
  • Carcinoid: Particular type of tumor.
  • Conjunctivitis: Contagious eye infection
  • Dandruff: White flaking and dryness of the scalp.
  • Dermatomyositis: A muscle disease characterized by chronic muscle inflammation resulting in progressive muscle weakness and a characteristic rash.
  • Discoid lupus erythematosus: Form of lupus affecting the skin.
  • Emotional stress: A condition which occurs when a person is under stress affecting their emotions
  • Exercise: The use of the human muscles to improve ones health
  • Granulomatous rosacea: A rare variant of rosacea characterized by facial redness and the development of pustules and bumps on the skin of the face.
  • Isotretinoin - Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Isotretinoin (an acne treatment drug) during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Lupus: Autoimmune disease with numerous effects on various organs and linings.
  • Nose shape symptoms: Unusual shape of the nose
  • Perioral dermatitis: A rash consisting of itchy red bumps that occur around the mouth area. The cheeks and even eye area may eventually become involved. The cause of the condition is not well understood but topical glucocorticoids can dramatically worsen the condition or even cause the condition.
  • Pimples: Pimples or pustules on the skin.
  • Rhinophyma: Bulbous red nose usually in older men
  • Rosacea: Inflammatory rash affecting cheeks, nose, forehead, chin
  • Skin bumps: Bumps or lumps on the skin.
  • Skin conditions: Any condition that affects the skin
  • Skin redness: The occurrence of redness that is located in the skin
  • Tacrolimus - Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Tacrolimus during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Telangiectasia: The permanent dilation of pre-existing small blood vessels
