Ruptured achilles tendon

Ruptured achilles tendon: Introduction

A break or rupture in the Achilles tendon. The tendon may completely or only partially rupture. It causes a lot of pain and makes walking very difficult or impossible depending on the extent of the damage. This tendon is the strongest tendon in the body and runs from the heel to the calf muscle up the back of the ankle. The tendon can be ruptured by a sudden unexpected force or can result when the tendon is structurally weakened by tendonitis which has persisted for quite a while.
