Inflammation of the sacroiliac joint which is located in the lower back. This particular joint (between the sacrum and illium) in the back has a very small range of motion compared to other joints and because of its location is under a lot of stress. Inflammation to this joint means that even the slightest movement involving the spine can cause pain and discomfort. The condition is often associated with diseases which cause inflammatory arthritis of the spine (spondylarthropathies).
