Warts are caused by infection with the human papillomavirus, a group of ether-resistant, deoxyribonucleic acid-containing papovaviruses. Mode of transmission is probably through direct contact, but autoinoculation is possible.
Although their incidence is highest in children and young adults, warts may occur at any age.

The term 'prevalence' of Seborrheic keratosis usually refers to the estimated population of people who are managing Seborrheic keratosis at any given time. The term 'incidence' of Seborrheic keratosis refers to the annual diagnosis rate, or the number of new cases of Seborrheic keratosis diagnosed each year. Hence, these two statistics types can differ: a short-lived disease like flu can have high annual incidence but low prevalence, but a life-long disease like diabetes has a low annual incidence but high prevalence.
