Sepsis:
Sepsis - epidemiology
(The 5-Minute Pediatric Consult)
Sepsis - incidence
Mortality rates from sepsis vary with age from 5.6 deaths per 100,000 in infants younger than 1 year of age to 0.5 per 100,000 age 1–4 years, and 0.1 per 100,000 age 5–14 years.
Sepsis - prevalence
Sepsis is among the most common (10–25%) medical diagnoses on admission to PICUs.

About prevalence and incidence statistics:
The term 'prevalence' of Septicemia usually refers to the estimated population
of people who are managing Septicemia at any given time.
The term 'incidence' of Septicemia refers to the annual diagnosis rate,
or the number of new cases of Septicemia diagnosed each year.
Hence, these two statistics types can differ:
a short-lived disease like flu can have high annual incidence but low prevalence,
but a life-long disease like diabetes has a low annual incidence but high prevalence.
