Medical Research Breakthroughs and Sexual Conditions

Female sperm??: Researchers at Newcastle Tyne University are ready to turn the female bone marrow into sperms, cutting men out of the process of creating life. British scientists say that the new technique will help lead to new treatments for infertility. Critics warn that it sidelines men and raises the prospect of babies born through entirely artificial means. The scientists take stem cells from a female donor’s bone marrow and transform them into sperm through the use of vitamins and chemicals. The Newcastle team has applied for permission to carry out work and work should start in two months. It has been reported that the female sperm could be produced inside two years. Mature sperm capable of fertilising eggs might take three more years. If the experiments succeed then gay men can donate skin cells that could be used to make eggs. These could then be fertilised by his partner’s sperm and placed into the womb of a surrogate mother. However there are fears that children grown from artificial eggs and sperm will suffer severe health problems.
