Glossary for Small Intestine Cancer

Adenocarcinoma: A carcinoma derived from/within glandular tissue.
Black stool: Darkening or blackness of stool
Bloody stool: Blood appearing in the stool.
Cancer: Abnormal overgrowth of body cells.
Carcinoid: Particular type of tumor.
Crohn's disease: Crohn's disease causes inflammation of the digestive system. It is one of a group of diseases called inflammatory bowel disease. The disease can affect any area from the mouth to the anus. It often affects the lower part of the small intestine called the ileum.
Digestive Diseases: Diseases that affect the digestive system
Digestive symptoms: Any symptoms affecting the digestive tract.
Digestive system cancer: A malignancy that affects the gastrointestinal cancer
Fatigue: Excessive tiredness or weakness.
Gastrointestinal bleeding: Internal bleeding in the digestive tract
Intestinal Conditions: Conditions that affect the intestines
Kaposi's Sarcoma: Kaposi's sarcoma is a cancerous tumor of the connective tissue, and is often associated with AIDS.
Leiomyosarcoma: A rare soft tissue cancer that arises from smooth muscle cells which form the involuntary muscles. Smooth muscle cells can occur in the skin, uterus, stomach, intestine and blood vessel walls. The main location for these tumors is in the uterus, retroperitoneum, pelvis and large blood vessels such as the inferior vena cava. Symptoms depend on the size and location of the tumor.
Lipoma: Tumor of fat cells usually just under the skin
Lymphoma: Cancer involving lymph nodes and the immune system.
Melena: Black, tarry stools with an offensive odour caused by an upper gastrointestinal bleed.
No symptoms: The absence of noticable symptoms.
Paleness: Whitening or pallor of the skin
Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome: A rare genetic disorder characterized by the development of numerous benign nodules on the inside lining of the intestinal wall as well as excess skin pigmentation usually around the lips and inner lining of the mouth.
Weight loss: Loss of body weight.
