Snake bite: Introduction

A bite by a snake - snakes use two sharp fangs to bite with and deliver poisons. Snake bites should always be assumed to be venomous and treated accordingly as a precaution. Snake bites can also cause infection or allergic reactions in some people. Many snakes are harmless but some such as the rattlesnake are highly venomous and require treatment with an antivenin. Thousands of people are bitten by poisonous snakes each year in the US. Snake bites are more common in summer as snakes are more active then.
