Glossary for Sydenham chorea

  • Acute rheumatic fever: Bacterial joint infection with risk of heart complications.
  • Brain conditions: Medical conditions that affect the brain
  • Chorea: Any disorder causing involuntary movement or spasms.
  • Chorea gravidarum:
  • Choreoathetosis: Choreoathetosis is the occurrence of involuntary movements in a combination of chorea and athetosis.
  • Clumsiness: Clumsy motions or poor coordination
  • Facial grimacing: A facial expression that indicated pain or the feeling of discomfort
  • Huntington's Disease: Inherited disease causing progressive mental deterioration.
  • Involuntary movements: The involuntary movement of the musculoskeletal system
  • Muscle weakness: A condition which is characterized by an inability of the muscles to function at their full strenght
  • Possibly Autoimmune Diseases: Diseases that may be autoimmune or have an autoimmune subtype, but it is unclear or controversial.
  • Restlessness: state of overactive restlessness
  • Rheumatic fever: An inflammatory disorder that can occur as a complication of untreated streptococcal bacterial infection such as strep throat or scarlet fever. The condition may affect the brain, skin, heart and joints.
  • Rheumatism: Rheumatism is a colloquial term used to describe a range of conditions which are considered to be rheumatalogical disorders. These may include conditions affecting the heart, lung, bones, joint, kidney and skin.
  • Streptococcal Infections: Various "strep" bacterial infections.
  • Wilson's Disease: Wilson disease, or hepatolenticular degeneration, is a neurodegenerative disease of copper metabolism.
