A Cesarean Section, or C-section, is the delivery of the fetus through an abdominal incision. A C-section is performed when a vaginal delivery is not safe for the mother or child. While the woman is under anesthetic, an incision is made just above the pubic bone, then the uterus is opened and the fetus is delivered. Both regional and general anesthesia may be used.
