  • If the anorectal pain occurs intermittently, what causes it to appear? - e.g. pain from anal fissure is precipitated by defecation; prolapse occurs during bowel evacuation, anal itch can occur with hot weather, exercise or sweating.
  • Medical history of Inflammatory bowel disease? - may indicate increased risk of perianal abscess.
