Bleeding under skin: Introduction

Any type of bleeding under the skin is a potential medical emergency because it may be a hemorrhagic rash that is caused by meningococcal septicemia (i.e. an extremely dangerous complication of meningococcal disease) or other severe hemorrhagic fevers (e.g. dengue fever). Although a local bleed under the skin in one location could simply be a bruise from a local injury, this type of skin bleeding needs immediate professional medical diagnosis because of the life-threatening possibilities.
