Diagnostic tests for Cold sweat:

    • General appearance - jaundice may suggest ascending cholangitis or cholecystitis.
    • Temperature - Cold sweats are often related to a fever. Fevers can be due to infection; malignant disease; metabolic disorders e.g. gout; blood disorders e.g. hemolytic anemia; vascular disorders e.g. stroke, brain hemorrhage, immunological disorders e.g. lupus.
    • Blood pressure and pulse - low blood pressure can suggest possible shock.
    • Examine the heart for a heart murmur which would suggest bacterial endocarditis
    • Examine the lungs for noises that suggest pneumonia or bronchiectasis

  • Have you been exposed to extreme hot weather? - may suggest heat exhaustion.
  • Travel history? - overseas travelers or visitors may have special or even exotic infections.
  • Past medical history? - e.g. AIDS, Rheumatic fever, pneumonia, immunodeficiency, cancer.
