Spitting blood

Spitting blood: Introduction

Blood in the mouth or oral region (such as "Spitting blood") can be coming from several sources and determining the location of the bleeding is important. The blood may result from simple causes like a mouth injury, lip injury, etc., which are probably not serious if the injury is not serious. But the blood may also come from more severe possiblities such as coughing blood, vomiting blood, gastrointestional bleeding, nosebleeds, throat bleeding, bleeding gums, or other causes of bleeding symptoms. Many of these types of bleeding have severe or even life-threatening causes, so this symptom needs immediate professional medical diagnosis.

Unnecessary hysterectomies due to undiagnosed bleeding disorder in women: The bleeding disorder called Von Willebrand's disease is quite common in women, but often fails to be correctly diagnosed. Women with the condition tend to have heavy periods, since they actually have a bleeding disorder. Severe afflictions may result in the women receiving a hysterectomy unnecessarily, when the underlying cause has not been identified.
