Questions Your Doctor May Ask - and Why!
During a consultation, your doctor will use various techniques in his assesment of the symptom: Bent penis.
These may include a physical examination or other medical tests.
Your doctor may ask several questions when assessing
your condition. It is important to remember that your consultation is a two-way process and any extra information
you can share with your doctor may help them with their diagnosis.
Some of the questions your doctor may ask are listed below:
- How long have you had the problem of the bent penis?
Why: to establish if acute or chronic.
- Is the penis bent all the time or just when erect?
Why: if deformity is only with erection this suggests Peyronie's disease or urethral stricture.
- Is vaginal intercourse possible?
Why: the penile deformity of Peyronie's disease may prevent satisfactory vaginal intercourse.
- Was there any injury to the penis?
Why: injury to the penis may cause deformity directly or may predispose to urethral stricture which can cause deformity with erections.
- History of sexually transmitted disease?
Why: Gonorrhea can cause urethral stricture.
Questions your doctor may ask about related symptoms:
Sometimes, other symptoms may be present and may help your doctor analyse
your condition. These may include:
- Discomfort with erection
Why: may suggest Peyronie's disease.
- Urinary stream problem?
Why: In Hypospadias the stream of urine may be deflected downwards or splash or drip back along the shaft of the penis. In Epispadias most people are incontinent of urine.
- Symptoms of urethral stricture?
Why: e.g. painful urination, weak urine stream, splaying of the urine stream, urinary retention and urinary tract infection - can cause deformity of the penis with erection.
- Urethral discharge?
Why: may indicate gonorrhea which can cause urethral stricture.
