Diagnostic Tests for Blisters

Diagnostic Test list for Blisters:

The list of diagnostic tests mentioned in various sources as used in the diagnosis of Blisters includes:

  • Physical examination
    • Rash examination - examine characteristics of blister(s).
    • Examine distribution or pattern of lesions ( are the lesions localized or widespread?) e.g. blisters in shingles occur in a dermatomal distribution - are the lesions all at the same stage of evolution e.g. chicken pox is characterized by starting as papules , then change to blisters which then crust over. The three stages present together.
    • Temperature - fever can suggest chicken pox, Staphylococcal skin syndrome, erythema multiforme.
    • Complete physical examination - disease does not usually affect the skin in isolation.
