Glossary for Chest pain
- Actinomycosis: A chronic infection usually caused by an organism normally found in human bowels and mouths. The disease usually affects the face and neck and results in deep, lumpy abscesses that emit a grainy pus through multiple sinuses.
- Acute Bronchitis: Respiratory inflammation of the bronchi leading to the lungs
- Alcohol abuse: Excessive alcohol as a symptom of other conditions
- Alveolar Hydatid Disease: Rare multi-organ tapeworm infection caught from animals.
- Anemia: Reduced red blood cells in the blood
- Aneurysm: Swelling or ballooning of part of an artery
- Angina: Angina is a particular type of pain related to heart conditions
- Ankylosing Spondylitis: A form of chronic inflammation of the spine which may also affect joints in the shoulder, hip, neck, ribs and jaw. May result in loss of mobility. Also called Marie-Strumpell disease.
- Anxiety attack: Sudden onset of extreme anxiety
- Aorta conditions: Conditions that affect the aorta
- Aortic aneurysm: A localised dilatation of the aorta which results in a 50% increase in its diameter
- Aortic valve disease: Disease of the heart's aortic valve
- Arrhythmias: Irregularity in the heart's beating rhythm.
- Artery conditions: Any conditions affecting arteries
- Artery symptoms: Symptoms affecting the arteries (large blood vessels)
- Asbestosis: Lung condition from asbestos exposure
- Asthma: Repeated attacks of breathing difficulty.
- Asthmatic Bronchitis: A variant of asthma where cough, either chronic or during an exacerbation following a viral infection, is the main or only symptom
- Atheroma: A region of plaque occurring in atherosclerosis
- Atrial fibrillation: A rhythm disturbance of the heart that results in irregular and chaotic ventricular contractions.
- Atrial flutter: Heart arrhythmia where atria beat more often than ventricles
- Autoimmune Atherosclerosis: The formation of atherosclerosis through an autoimmune process
- Autoimmune Myocarditis: Myocarditis caused by an autoimmune reaction
- Barotrauma: Damage to the lungs, ear or sinuses caused by rapid or extreme changes in air pressure.
- Belching: Producing gas from the oral area.
- Blastomycosis: Rare soil-borne infection
- Bornholm disease: Contagious viral infection
- Bowel conditions: Medical conditions that affect the bowels
- Bowel movements: Changes in type or frequency of bowel motions
- Breathing symptoms: Symptoms affecting the breathing systems.
- Bronchitis: Inflammation of the bronchi as a symptom
- Carbon monoxide poisoning: Poisoning from breathing air with too much carbon monoxide, usually from combustion.
- Cardiomyopathy: Any disease of the heart muscle

- Cervical Spondylosis: Condition where bony changes within the cervical spine causes spinal cord compression with associated neck pain; usually seen in patients over 40 years of age.

- Chickenpox: Common viral infection.

- Collapsed lung: Deflation of all or part of one lung

- Cor pulmonale: Right ventricular enlargement and failure caused by pulmonary hypertension.
- Coronary heart disease: Disease affecting the heart's arteries (narrowed arteries)
- Cough: Any type of coughing symptom.
- Decompression sickness: Condition from overly rapid decompression, especially when diving.
- Dilated cardiomyopathy: Disease of the heart muscle
- Duodenal conditions: Any condition that affects the duodenum
- Duodenal ulcer: Type of peptic ulcer in the duodenum
- Duodenitis: Inflammation of the duodenal mucosa
- Ebola: Dangerous virus mostly found in Africa.
- Electrocution: Any injury caused by electricity
- Esophagitis: Inflammation of the esophagus
- Esophagus diseases: Diseases affecting the esophagus
- Esophagus symptoms: Symptoms affecting the esophagus (digestive throat passage)
- Fabry's Disease: An inherited metabolic disorder where phospholipids are deposited mostly in the blood vessels as well as other tissues and organs. Symptoms include skin lesions, small red spots on the abdomen, thighs and scrotum, fever, peripheral edema, hypertension and renal failure. Also called angiokeratoma corporis diffusion, Anderson's syndrome, Anderson-Fabry disease, Morbus Anderson-Fabry, Ruiter-Pompen syndrome or Sweeley-Klionsky disease.
- Filovirus: A group of viruses that includes Marburg and Ebola
- Flea-borne diseases: Diseases that are carried by fleas
- Friedreich's ataxia: Progressive muscle weakness from nerve damage.
- Gall bladder conditions: Any condition that affects the gallbladder
- Gas: Producing gas from the oral area.
- Gastric Ulcer: Painful erosion in wall of stomach due to increased acidity or irritation (eg bacterial infection, anti-inflammatory medication use)

- Gastroesophageal reflux: Is referred to as the reflux of contents of the duodenum and stomach into the oesophagus

- Glanders: Animal disease and possible bioterrorism threat.
- Halitosis: Bad breath
- Heart attack: Serious and often fatal acute heart condition
- Heart conditions: Any condition affecting the heart
- Heart rhythm symptoms: Problems with the rhythm of the heartbeat (arrhythmias)
- Heart symptoms: Symptoms affecting the heart
- Heartburn: Chest or digestive pain from reflux of stomach acid

- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: Heart damage from thickened heart walls.
- Hyperventilation: Abnormally fast and deep breathing.
- Infection: Infections as a symptom.
- Injury: Any type of physical injury, typically from accidents or assault.

- Iron deficiency anemia: Reduced red blood cells from insufficient iron.
- Ischemic heart disease: Heart disease from reduced blood flow to the heart

- Shortness of breath: The feeling of being short of breath
- Sickle Cell Anemia: Genetic disease causing anemia from improperly formed red blood cells.
- Silicosis: Lung condition from silica exposure
- Smoking: The use of cigarette or other forms of tobacco.
- Spinal Arthritis: Degenerative arthritic changes in the back causing pain and loss of function; may be due to age-related degenerative change (osteoarthritis) or due to autoimmune disease (rheumatoid arthritis).
- Spinal Cord Tumor: Cancer of the spinal cord or central nervous system.
- Spinal conditions: Any disorder of the spine or spinal cord.
- Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome: Toxic shock from streptococcal bacteria infection.
- Stress: Emotional stress (sometimes refers to physical stress)
- Supraventricular Tachycardia: A rapid heart rate, the cause of which originates above the ventricles.

- Tuberculosis: Bacterial infection causing nodules forming, most commonly in the lung.
- Wegener's granulomatosis: Disease with granuloma growths in various body organs.
- Whipple's Disease: Rare malabsorption disease from bacterial digestive infection
- Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome: Heart arrhythmia causing increased heart rate
