  • Acanthamoeba infection: Infection with a microscopic, free-living ameba that is readily found in the environment - soil, air and water. Most people exposed to the ameba will not become infected but when infections do occur, they tend to affect the eyes, central nervous system or can cause widespread infection throughout the body.
  • Acanthamoeba infection of the eye: Infection by an amoebic organism called Acanthamoeba. Infection usually occurs when the amoeba enters through a break in the skin or through the nose. Infection can be localized or systemic where it can involve the central nervous system and cause potentially fatal meningoencephalitis.   • Rheumatoid arthritis: An autoimmune inflammatory condition which primarily affects the joints

The condition may result from such things as congenital defect of the bile ducts (e.g. biliary atresia), cystic fibrosis, gallstones or a variety of other secondary conditions.
  • Secondary glaucoma: Glaucoma that occurs as a complication of various medical conditions such as eye surgery, advanced cataracts, eye injuries, some eye tumors, uveitis, diabetes or use of corticosteroid drugs.

  • Sparrow allergy: A sparrow allergy is an adverse reaction by the body's immune system to sparrows. The allergy is usually associated with the skin, feathers or excrement of the bird.   • Split-leaf philodendron poisoning: Split-leaf philodendron is a climbing vine with a distinctive leaf which has lobes and holes. The plant bears a relatively large fruit which is edible after it has ripened for a year. The green fruit contains oxalic acid which can cause symptoms if eaten. However, some people are allergic even to the ripe fruit.
  • Stevens-Johnson Syndrome: A rare but serious condition involving inflammation and blistering of the skin and mucous membranes. It is believed to be an allergic reaction that can occur in response to some drugs or infectious diseases.
  • Sticky eye: When a person experiences a sticky eye
  • Stye: inflammation of the glands in the eyelids
  • Styes: inflammation of the glands in the eyelids
  • Sub acute angle closure Glaucoma: The attacks of rise in IOP are recurrent regular each attack lasting from a few minutes to 1-2 hours.
  • Subdural hematoma: A condition which is characterized by a blood clot beneath the dura mater
  • Temporal arteritis: Inflamed head artery causing headache.
  • Thrombosis: Blood clot occurring in a blood vessel
  • Tolosa-Hunt Syndrome: A rare disorder characterized by severe headaches and paralysis and weakness of eye muscles.
  • Toxoplasmosis: Infection often caught from cats and their feces.
  • Trachoma: Chronic bacterial eye condition in the developing world
  • Trichinosis: Worm infection usually caught from pigs
  • Trigeminal neuralgia: Trigeminal neuralgia is a very painful inflammation of the nerve (trigeminal nerve) that delivers sensations to the face and "surface" of the eye.
  • Tuberculous uveitis: Eye infection by a tuberculous bacteria called Mycobacteriu tuberculosis. The eye infection may occur secondary to a tuberculous infection of the rest of the body or it may occur only in the eye.
  • Turkey allergy: A turkey allergy is an adverse reaction by the body's immune system to turkeys. The allergy is usually associated with the skin, feathers or excrement from the turkey. The body's immune system produces immunoglobulin E (IgE - an antibody) and histamine in response to contact with the allergen.   • Type A influenza subtype H1: The H1 subtype of influenza is a strain of the type A influenza virus that can cause cause serious illness and result in pandemics. Influenza is viral respiratory infection. The virus is very contagious and can cause severe illness especially in patients who are very young or old or have some other medical condition as well. The severity of symptoms can vary but usually involves respiratory and constitutional (e.g. headache, aching muscles) symptoms. The influenza virus can mutate and produce different strains though the symptoms are the same. This frequent mutation means that people need regular vaccinations to ensure they are protected against new strains as they arise.
  • Uveal diseases: Any condition which affects the uvea of the eye
  • Uveal melanoma: A condition which is characterised by malignancy of the uvea
  • Uveitis: A condition which is the result of inflammation of the uvea
  • Vaccinia keratitis: Vaccinia keratitis is an eye condition that occurs when the cornea is exposed to the smallpox virus. This exposure is most likely to occur when a person rubs their eyes after handling or bathing a recently vaccinated child. Symptoms may be severe and permanent damage to vision may result.
  • Vernal keratoconjunctivitis: A rare allergic type of conjunctivitis (inflammation of the lining of the eyelid and most of the eye) which occurs seasonally in warm weather
  • Viral diseases: Any disease that is caused by a virus
  • Vision changes: Any change in vision or sight.
  • Vitamin A deficiency: Dietary deficiency of vitamin A
  • Wegener's granulomatosis: A rare disease involving blood vessel inflammation which can affect the blood flow to various tissues and organs and hence cause damage. The respiratory system and the kidneys are the main systems affected.
  • X-linked agammaglobulinaemia: A condition that is characterised by the x linked inheritance of the absence of all immunoglobulins in the blood
