Glossary for Itching skin

  • Acne: Pimples and blackheads on the skin
  • Adverse reaction: Term to describe unwanted, negative consequences sometimes associated with using medications, diagnostic tests or therapeutic interventions.
  • Alkalosis: A condition that iscaused by the accumulation of base in the body.
  • Allergic reaction: A hypersensitivity reaction produced by the body, which results in an exaggerated or inappropriate immune reaction to a particular substance.
  • Allergies: Immune system over-reaction to various substances.
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: A degenerative motor neuron disease marked by weakness and wasting of the muscles which starts at the hands and legs and spreads to the rest of the body. Death occurs in 2 to 5 years. Also called Lou Gehrig's disease or wasting palsy.
  • Anal fissure: A painful ulcer linear to the margin of the anus
  • Anal itching: Itching near or around the anus
  • Anal symptoms: Symptoms affecting the anus.
  • Anaphylaxis: An immediate hypersensitivity reaction due to the exposure of a specific antigen to a sensitized individual
  • Anemia: Reduced red blood cells in the blood
  • Angelman syndrome: Rare chromosomal birth defect usually causing retardation.
  • Ankle itch: A sensation that causes a desire to scratch the skin of the ankle

  • Cholestasis: A condition where bile formation or flow is reduced.
  • Chorea: The occurrence of rapid, jerky, dyskinetic movements that are involuntary
  • Chronic Kidney Disease: Long-term and generally irreversible disease of the kidneys due to infection, obstruction, congenital diseases or generalised diseases causing failure of the kidneys' normal functions.
  • Chronic kidney failure: Gradual failure of the kidneys over a period of time
  • Ciguatera poisoning: Rare toxic food poisoning from eating contaminated fish
  • Clitoris itch: An sensation to scratch the clitoris
  • Contact dermatitis: Skin reaction to an irritant
  • Convulsions: A series of involuntary contractions of voluntary muscles.
  • Corneal abrasion: Scratch on the cornea
  • Corneal ulcer: An ulcer occurring in the cornea.
  • Cutaneous mastocytosis: Skin mastocytosis
  • Dandruff: Scaly and dry material that is shed from the scalp
  • Dandy-Walker Syndrome: Rare brain birth defect.

  • Dermatomyositis: Autoimmune connective tissue condition causing muscle weakness.
