  • AIDS: A term given to HIV patients who have a low CD4 count (below 200) which means that they have low levels of a type of immune cell called T-cells. AIDS patients tend to develop opportunistic infections and cancers. Opportunistic infections are infections that would not normally affect a person with a healthy immune system. The HIV virus is a virus that attacks the body's immune system.
  • Alcohol - Teratogenic Agent: There is strong evidence to indicate that exposure to Alcohol during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Candidiasis: Fungal infection of moist areas such as mouth or vagina
  • Chronic Illness: Any form of continuing chronic illness.
  • Coated tongue: When the tongue is coated in a whitish or yellowish layer
  • Dehydration: Loss and reduction in body water levels
  • Epstein-Barr virus: Common virus causing mononucleosis
  • Face symptoms: Symptoms affecting the face
  • Hairy Tongue: Abnormal sensation where the tongue feels hairy or furry.
  • Head symptoms: Symptoms affecting the head or brain
  • Immune deficiency conditions: Any of various diseases that suppress the immune system.
  • Jadassohn-Lewandowsky syndrome: A rare, inherited disorder characterized by thickening of nails, white patches on mouth and anus(leukoplakia) and thickened hard skin on soles and palms.
  • Jaundice: yellowish discoloration of the skin and mucous membrane
  • Leukoplakia: This is a white area on a mucous membrane that will not rub offoff
  • Lupus: Autoimmune disease with numerous effects on various organs and linings.
  • Mouth symptoms: Symptoms of the mouth or oral area.
  • Oral candidiasis: An infection with the fungus candida which occurs in the mouth
  • Oral lichen planus: An inflammatory condition involving the mucous lining inside the mouth, including the lips, tongue, gums and throat.
  • Oral thrush: Candida fungal infection of the mouth.
  • Skin color changes: Skin changes such as redness, blueness, or whitening.
  • Skin problems: Any condition that affects the skin
  • Skin symptoms: Symptoms affecting the skin.
  • Smoking: The smoking of cigarettes
  • Sore tongue: Pain or soreness of the tongue
  • Swallowing difficulty: Difficulty or pain when swallowing
  • Swallowing symptoms: Problems with the ability to swallow
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus: chronic autoimmune disease that can be fatal, though with recent medical advances, fatalities are becoming increasingly rare.
  • Throat symptoms: Symptoms affecting the throat
  • Tongue discolouration: Abnormal colour change of the tongue
  • Tongue rash: A rash located in the tongue
  • Tongue symptoms: Symptoms affecting the tongue.
  • Whitening: Whitening or reduced coloring of the skin
