Glossary for Taeniasis

  • Abdominal pain: A condition which is characterized by the sensation of pain that is located in the abdomen
  • Appetite changes: Inappropriately reduced or increased appetite.
  • Cysticercosis: An infectious disease caused by the pork tapeworm Taenia solium. If the larvae are ingested then a mild or asymptomatic tapeworm infection occurs. However, ingested eggs pass into the bloodstream where they can then enter various tissues and form the cysts that characterize cysticercosis.
  • Nausea: The queasy feeling of nausea and often also vomiting.
  • Neurocysticercosis: Brain/CNS infection with the tapeworm Cysticercosis
  • Pruritus: The sensation of itch
  • Weakness: Symptoms causing weakness of the body
  • Weals: Drug reaction, allergy, infection, lupus, overactive thyroid, polycythemia, rheumatic fever, blisters, amyloidosis, progesterone increase, Still's Disease, pregnancy, vasculitis
  • Weight loss: Loss of body weight.
