Glossary for Thiamine deficiency

  • Alcoholism: Alcoholism is the compulsive urge to drink alcohol despite knowing the negative impact on one's health.
  • Alzheimer's Disease: Dementia-causing brain disease mostly in seniors and the elderly.
  • Beriberi: Disease due to vitamin B1 deficiency (thiamine)
  • Depression: Various syndromes with excessive anxiety, phobias, or fear.
  • Hyperemesis Gravidarum: Rare condition of excessive vomiting during pregnancy
  • Irritability: Excessive feelings of annoyance or frustration.
  • Kwashiorkor: A malnutrition state that is produced by severe protein deficiency
  • Mosse syndrome: A condition involving the association of liver cirrhosis with polycythemia which is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder characterized by the excessive production of mainly red blood cells by the bone marrow.
  • Sleep disturbance: Sleeping difficulty, called insomnia, can involve difficulty falling asleep when you first go to bed at night, waking up too early in the morning, and waking up often during the night.
  • Tiredness: Feeling tired either physically or mentally
  • Vitamin B deficiency: When there is a deficiency of vitamin B in the body
  • Vitamin deficiency: When there is any deficiency of vitamins in the body
  • Wernicke's encephalopathy: Brain condition with various effects
  • Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome: A rare degenerative brain disorder caused by thiamine (Vitamin B1) deficiency. Chronic alcoholics are prone to this condition.
