Glossary for Throat cancer

  • Aphthous Ulcer: A rare condition characterized by recurring periods of painful inflamed mouth ulcers.
  • Bleeding symptoms: Any type of bleeding symptoms.
  • Cancer: Abnormal overgrowth of body cells.
  • Dysphagia: When swallowing is difficult
  • Larynx Cancer: Cancer of the voice box or nearby areas.
  • Nicotine addiction: Nicotine addiction is the uncontrollable desire to continue smoking. Smoking products contain nicotine which is a chemical that can lead to addiction if used over a period of time. Cessation causes withdrawal symptoms which can vary in nature and severity.
  • Pharynx cancer: A condition that is characterised by a malignant lesion located in the pharynx
  • Respiratory system cancer: A condition that is characterised by a malignancy anatomically located in the respiratory system
  • Smoking: The smoking of cigarettes
  • Sore throat: Discomfort in the throat or with swallowing
  • Throat pain: The occurrence of pain which is located in the throat
  • Throat symptoms: Symptoms affecting the throat
  • Throat ulcers: Ulceration of the internal throat
  • Tonsil cancer: A disorder characterised by malignancy that is located on the tonsils
