Thumb sucking

Thumb sucking: Introduction

A common habit in where children suck their thumb. Thumb sucking is a normal soothing activity in infants and younger children and most tend to stop by the age of 4 or 5. However, some continue beyond this age and into adulthood. Thumb sucking at an older age can not only cause the child (or adult) embarrassment but can affect the structure of teeth. Sucking a contaminated thumb can also cause infection.
