The bite from a tick. Ticks are small creatures that look like insects and live in wooded areas or fields. They attach themselves to a person as the person brushes past them and they then find a warm moist area to attach themselves in order to remove blood. During this feeding process infected ticks can transmit a number of tick-borne diseases such as lyme disease, typhus, rocky mountain spotted fever and babesiosis. However, most ticks do not carry disease and cause no real harm.

Pitfalls in diagnosing palpitations: The symptom of palpitations is suggestive of cardiac arrhythmia but may have a non- cardiac cause. Palpitations not related to emotion, fever and exercise suggest an arrhythmia.
