Glossary for Tick paralysis

  • Ataxia: It is a neurological sign and symptom consisting of gross lack of co-ordination of muscle movements.
  • Botulism food poisoning: Extremely dangerous food poisoning requiring medical attention, but not always recognized because of its non-abdominal symptoms.
  • Clumsiness: Clumsy motions or poor coordination
  • Double vision: Double vision
  • Guillain-Barre Syndrome: Rare autoimmune disorder destroying nerve function lead to weakness and paralysis.
  • Irritability: Excessive feelings of annoyance or frustration.
  • Lethargy: feeling of tiredness
  • Lyme disease: Lyme disease is an emerging infectious disease caused by at least three species of bacteria belonging to the genus Borrelia.
  • Muscle weakness: A condition which is characterized by an inability of the muscles to function at their full strenght
  • Polio: Dangerous virus now rare due to vaccination.
  • Poor appetite: Loss or reduction in appetite for food
  • Queensland tick typhus: Form of typhus from North-Australian ticks
  • Rabies: An infectious disease that can affect any mammal including humans and is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal. The infectious agent is the Neurotropic lyssavirus which affects the salivary gland and also causes neurological symptoms.
  • Restlessness: state of overactive restlessness
  • Tick-borne diseases: Any disease that is transferred to humans by the tick
