Glossary for Tuberous sclerosis

  • Ataxia Telangiectasia: A rare inherited childhood disorder involving progressive degeneration of the nervous system.
  • Behavioral symptoms: Symptoms of personal behavior.
  • Benign tumor: A tumor or growth that remains localized; not always harmless.
  • Bone cancer: Malignancy that occurs in the bone
  • Brain cancer: Cancer of the brain.
  • Brain conditions: Medical conditions that affect the brain
  • Eye cancer: A malignancy that affects the eye
  • Eye lesions: Any lesion that occurs in the eye
  • Face symptoms: Symptoms affecting the face
  • Genetic Disease: Any disease that is handed down to oneself through the chromosomes of ones parents
  • Hypomelanotic disorder: Lack of pigmentation
  • Kidney Cancer: Cancer that forms in tissues of the kidneys
  • Kidney conditions: Any condition affecting the kidney organs.
  • Kidney stones: Stone-like calcium deposits in the kidney.
  • Mental retardation: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by mental retardation, hypogonadism, diabetes and facial and skull abnormalities.

  • No symptoms: The absence of noticable symptoms.

  • Status epilepticus: A condition which is characterized by a continuous series of generalized tonic clonic seizures
  • Sturge-Weber Syndrome: A rare genetic disorder characterized by excessive blood vessel growth, calcium accumulation inside the brain and seizures.
  • Tuberous sclerosis: A rare genetic disorder characterized by harmartomatous skin nodules, seizures, phakomata and bone lesions.
