Antihistamines

Introduction: Antihistamines

Antihistamines are drugs used against the immune system, usually to treat a case where the immune system is over-reacting. These drugs act against "histamines" which are substances produced by the body to cause an immune response.

Antihistamines are not the same as immunosuppressants. Immunosuppressants are usually a longer-lasting and more general form of immune suppressing medication, whereas antihistamines tend to be used short-term against acute immune responses.
