Vaginal fistula
Vaginal fistula: Introduction
An abnormal opening between the vagina and another organ such as the bladder, urethra or rectum. This can result in incontinence (either leaking urine or feces from the vagina) which is very distressing for the patient. Many cases of vaginal fistula occur following pelvic operations such as a hysterectomy or cesarean. Childbirth and radiation of the pelvic area (cancer treatment) can also eventually lead to the development of a vaginal fistula.
