Glossary for Vaginitis

  • Atrophic vaginitis: Type of vaginitis usually related to aging and menopause
  • Bacterial vaginosis: Bacterial vaginal infection
  • Bladder conditions: Any condition affecting the bladder
  • Candidiasis: Fungal infection of moist areas such as mouth or vagina
  • Cervicitis: Inflammation of the cervix
  • Chlamydia: Common sexually transmitted disease often without symptoms.
  • Chronic pelvic pain:
  • Clotrimazole - Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Clotrimazole (an antifungal medication) during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Diflucan - Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Diflucan (an antifungal drug) during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus.   • Dyspareunia: Vaginal pain after sexual intercourse

  • Overactive bladder/urinary incontinence:
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease: Infection of the womb and fallopian tubes.
  • Pinworm: Small, threadlike parasitic worms mainly in colon and rectum
  • Reiter’s syndrome: A form of reactive arthritis characterized by arthritis, urethritis, conjunctivitis and skin lesions.
  • Soap allergy: An immune-mediated reaction to exposure to soap. Soap allergy tends to be more common in children and symptoms can vary in nature and severity.
  • Torulopsis: A type of yeast infection caused by Torulopsis glabrata. The fungus is often found in normal healthy skin, respiratory system, genitourinary system and gastrointestinal system and it generally only becomes a problem in weakened or immunocompromised people. They type of symptoms are determined by where and how severe the infection is.
  • Trichomoniasis: Sexually transmitted parasitic infection.
  • Urethral syndrome: Group of urinary symptoms
  • Urinary disorders: Any disorder that affects the urinary system
  • Vagina cancer: Cancer of the vagina.
  • Vagina conditions: Any condition that affects the female vagina
  • Vaginal candidiasis: Fungal infection of the vagina, sometimes called thrush.
  • Vaginal discharge: Discharge from the vagina as a symptom
  • Vaginal irritation: Any irritation which occurs in the vagina
  • Vaginal itching: Itching inside the vagina
  • Vaginal odor: Vaginal smell or scent symptoms
  • Vaginitis: Vaginal inflammation or infection of any type.
  • Vulva itch: Itching of the vulva area
  • Vulva symptoms: Symptoms related to the vulva (external skin region near vagina)
  • Vulvitis: Vulval skin inflammation
  • Vulvovaginitis: Irritation or inflammation of the vulva or vagina. The condition is very common in young girls and can be triggered by moisture, tight clothing, obesity and irritants such as soap.
