Definitions of Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome:
A condition caused by overwhelming BACTERIAL INFECTIONS or SEPTICEMIA, leading to HEMORRHAGE and NECROSIS of the ADRENAL GLAND. It is characterized by rapidly developing ADRENAL INSUFFICIENCY; HYPOTENSION; and widespread cutaneous PURPURA. This syndrome may occur at any age but is more common in children. - (Source - Diseases Database)
Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome is listed as a "rare disease" by the Office of
Rare Diseases (ORD) of the National Institutes of Health
(NIH). This means that Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome, or a subtype of Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome,
