Glossary for West Nile fever

Aches: General body aches or muscle aches
Dengue fever: An acute viral disease characterized by fever, rash and myalgia and caused by a flavivirus which is transmitted by mosquitoes.
Encephalitis: Dangerous infection of the brain
Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
Flavivirus: A group B arbovirus that causes disease in humans and animals
Guillain-Barre Syndrome: Rare autoimmune disorder destroying nerve function lead to weakness and paralysis.
Headache: In medicine a headache or cephalalgia is a symptom of a number of different conditions of the head and sometimes neck. Some of the causes are benign while others are medical emergencies. It ranks among the most common pain complaints
Japanese encephalitis: A form of encephalitis caused by a flavivirus (Japanese B encephalitis virus - JBEV) and transmitted by mosquito bites. Most cases are mild and asymptomatic but severe cases can lead to death.
Meningoencephalitis: A condition which is characterized by inflammation of the brain and meninges
Mosquito bite: Bite from a mosquito.
Mosquito-borne diseases: Diseases that are carried by the mosquito
Muscle weakness: A condition which is characterized by an inability of the muscles to function at their full strenght
Neck pain: Pain affecting the neck
Rash: A reaction to the exposure of the skin to an allergen
St. Louis encephalitis: Mosquito-borne type of brain infection (encephalitis)
Swollen lymph glands: The occurrence of lymph glands which are swollen
Vague symptoms: Vague, unclear, mild or non-specific symptoms
Viral diseases: Any disease that is caused by a virus
Vomiting: Vomiting or retching symptoms.
West Nile fever: Mosquito-borne infectious virus.
Yellow fever: A viral infection transmitted by mosquito bites which can damage various organs such as the liver, heart, kidney and digestive tract.
